Karen's Turkey Chili

First set of ingredients

2 cups red onion, chopped

2 cup chopped seeded poblano chili

1 jalapeno chopped and seeded

2-3 t chopped garlic

2 lb ground turkey

Second set of ingredients

1 T chili powder

2 T oregano

2 t ground cumin

½ t salt

½ t ground black pepper

2 cans of black beans

28 oz can of diced undrained tomatoes

2 cans (14 oz) chicken broth

2 cans of tomato paste

½ cup fresh chopped cilantro


Heat oil in a large stock pot

Add in onions and sauté until almost clear

Add garlic and peppers and continue to sauté for 2-3 minutes

Add in turkey bit by bit making sure to separate and chopwhile browning

Brown for 6-8 minutes until white

Add in second set of ingredients – spices first and then,beans, tomatoes, broth and paste.

Then toss in ½ of cilantro.

Cover and simmer 40 minutes

Stir every 10 minutes or so.

Remove cover and continue cooking (15 minutes to 30 minutes)until desired consistency.

Add in remainder of fresh cilantro.

Top with sour cream, yogurt, lime, shredded cheese or whatever makes you happy


The longer you simmer the deeper the flavor will be. This is one of those meals that tastes better re-heated. It also freezes well.
